Within the mission statement of Alpha Chi Omega, service is listed as one of the four tenets of purpose. Alpha Chi Omega’s across the nation show dedication to this tenet by providing services to their local communities and nation at large. The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation is Alpha Chi Omega’s number one altruism.
The purpose of The Foundation is to support sisters through scholarship and financial assistance, and also to support the programs and mission of Alpha Chi Omega. Outside of the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, our sisters support the cause of domestic violence awareness. Our goal as an organization is not only to bring light to the issue of domestic violence, but also to educate our communities about the fostering of healthy relationships in order to prevent domestic violence.
Letter from VP Philanthropy
Welcome to the philanthropy section of the Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Pi website! My name is Emily Odell and I currently hold the position of VP Philanthropy for the Kappa Pi chapter, and I am so happy you have taken the time to learn a little more about our philanthropy, domestic violence awareness.
Our philanthropy is unique because we are an organization of women who have the opportunity to give directly back and empower women in our Wilmington community. Our chapter has taken advantage of this opportunity by creating partnerships with local organizations that advocate for the same cause, The Open Gate and The Community Boys and Girls Club. At the Open Gate, we are able to provide donations in order to assist in their mission to serve those who have been affected by domestic violence. At the Community Boys and Girls Club we are able to work with a younger population in hopes to educate the children about healthy relationships and hopefully prevent situations of domestic violence in the future.
I have felt very passionately about domestic violence awareness for a long time and am so grateful to have the opportunity to serve for an organization that takes an active stand against domestic violence! I am so proud of our chapter’s active involvement in our philanthropy and look forward to seeing future members become passionate about domestic violence awareness and make a difference in the world.
Sending much love,
The sisters of the Kappa Pi chapter hold multiple events in order to support the domestic violence shelter in Wilmington, The Open Gate. We have held percentage nights at local restaurants and held larger events like “The Venture Against Violence,” which was similar to the popular television show, The Amazing Race, and a basketball tournament “Guard Your Heart Through the Hoops of Love.” Our most recent philanthropic effort was a spaghetti dinner we co-hosted with the local Community Boys and Girls Club. The dinner was a huge success! We were able to sell over 300 tickets and raise around $3,000, which we donated portions to both The Community Boys and Girls Club and The Open Gate.
In addition, this past semester, our chapter has been holding service events with The Community Boys and Girls Club. Each month we have hosted an activity for the kids to participate in, like making Valentines Day cards to take to children at The Open Gate or making bracelets. One month, we even had a representative come from The Open Gate and talk to the kids about healthy friendships and we made banners with the kids to hang on campus in order to create domestic violence awareness. We have had such a great experience serving our time with The Community Boys and Girls Club.
None of our events would be successful without the support of our fellow Greeks on campus! We are so lucky to have so much support from Greek Life in all of our philanthropic endeavors. The Kappa Pi chapter loves having the opportunity to go out and participate in other organization’s philanthropy events and their great causes!
“We are real women. Facing real issues. In the real world. On the one hand, inspiring. In turn, being inspired. Transforming. And being transformed. Together, creating a more positive reality, for ourselves and others.”
